The Awakening the Dreamer Symposium is a dynamic multimedia experience that calls participants to explore the most urgent challenges and possibilities for our time in the context of addressing the questions: Where are we? How did we get here? and, What are the possibilities for the future? The beautiful videos clearly illuminate the root causes of the environmental, social and spiritual crises facing humanity and the extraordinary possibilities emerging at this time in history. Through discussion and exercises, participants are inspired to fulfill their unique role in creating our shared future. The main purpose of the Symposium is to create a cadre of people around the world who are “awake” and actively engaged in the process of bringing about a human presence on this planet that is environmentally sustainable, socially just and spiritually fulfilling.
Detailed programme – Thematic Focus:
The Awakening the Dreamer Symposium was created by The Pachamama Alliance, carefully crafted to fulfill the request from our indigenous Achuar partners, to change the dream of the modern world and shift cultures based on consumption and destruction to cultures of justice, sustainability and fulfillment. Many of the symposium’s video segments are educational and informative, providing a sobering overview of current social injustices and environmental degradation. It brings together respected scientific expertise and indigenous wisdom to help us look at the root causes of how we got here, and see what must change in the way we live and work.
The symposium experience is inspiring and empowering as it looks at examples of what is emerging and the possibilities for the future. It acknowledges that we must learn to work together collaboratively to solve the problems we have created. We can no longer use war as a tool. Group interaction exercises and guided personal reflection give participants the tools to move past anxiety or anguish, and into the empowering realization that we are capable of creating a better world for all.
Live speakers will be the facilitators from Beyond War, the Pachamama Alliance, and the Global Alliance for the Rights of Nature, including Bill and Elaine Hallmark, both attorneys and long time activists. The media presentations include world renowned figures, such as Paul Hawken, Desmond Tutu, Bill and Lynne Twist, Brian Swimme, Van Jones, Joanna Macy and many others.
The Pachamama Alliance’s mission is “To empower indigenous people of the Amazon rainforest to preserve their lands and culture and, using insights gained from that work, to educate and inspire individuals everywhere to bring forth a thriving, just and sustainable world.”
Beyond War’s mission is to “Explore, model and create the MEANS for humanity to live together collaboratively without war, creating a world that works for all.”
Rights of Mother Earth is a global campaign calling forth the universal acceptance of the rights of nature.
