Time: 3:30 pm

Failure at Rio+20 cannot be accepted; failure of the official process should not become an obstacle towards successful evolving of a global movement to lead the transition towards sustainable futures on earth. CSOs shall not make a historical mistake of simply being reactive to a weak international agenda on sustainable development; they need to assume their rightful place in global citizenry and provide the vision, leadership, and commitment towards reinforcing a strong agenda and action plan to forge ahead in a transition towards sustainable futures for all, including both humans and biodiversity. The Peoples’ Sustainability Treaties brings together global civil society to develop an independent, collective outcome for a sustainable future beyond Rio+20. These independent collective agreements are produced by people’s organizations in parallel to the official UNCSD2012 and to further to strengthen the People’s Summit Rio+20 and all other independent efforts towards creating people’s visions and voices. The treaties are essentially a forward looking process and targets a future beyond Rio+20 and will become a living document towards planning the transition action towards a sustainable world order. This launch event, the first in series at Rio+20, will bring together leaders of Civil Society Organizations from across the world to engage in a dialogue towards advancing a Global Citizens Movement!

The Global Alliance along with our partners will be an active voice at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, more commonly referred as the Earth Summit or Rio+20 in recognition that it is the 20th anniversary on the 1992 Rio Earth Summit. The People’s Summit will run in parallel with the UN sponsored Earth Summit.

This calendar highlights Rights of Nature/Rights of Mother Earth related events that we are hosting and/or supporting with aligned partners.  More events will be added as they are confirmed between now and the opening of the Conference June 13, 2012. If you would like to submit an event to be posted in this calendar, please complete the form below.  We ask that all events be aligned with and advocate for Rights of Nature/Rights of Mother Earth.
