Gudju Gudju on Indigenous People’s connection to the Great Barrier Reef

Gudju Gudju Fourmile of the Gimuy Walibara Yidinji, the traditional owners of Cairns (Gimuy) shares insights about the indigenous people’s connection to the land and the sea country of the Great Barrier Reef. Gudju Gudju’s interview was prepared for the International Rights of Nature Tribunal convened in Paris, France.

In January 2014, the Australian Earth Laws Alliance brought the Great Barrier Reef Case to the International Rights of Nature Tribunal.  Regional hearings were held in 2014 and 2015. The Decision for the Case was presented to the International Rights of Nature Tribunal in Paris. Gudju Gudju’s interview providing an Indigenous Peoples perspective on the case was presented with concluding judgement on December 5, 2015.
