The Global Alliance for Seed Freedom invites you to join people and communities around the globe to reaffirm our commitment to seed freedom, food diversity, and earth democracy. Taking our inspiration from the April 29th Declaration of Florence, this year’s actions recognize the need for us to come together and openly and creatively build a new global economy based on the freedom of the commons.
The current failing economic model is based on the privatization of the commons of seed and knowledge, and has resulted in an ecological crisis that has degraded our environment, destroyed our planet’s biodiversity, and uprooted farmers from their livelihoods and culture. At this time of global crisis, as our planet faces economic and ecological collapse, it is imperative we imagine and build alternatives to the current dominant economic and agricultural models.
The ‘Call to Act for Seed, Food, and Earth Democracy’ 2014 is a powerful global event that will help to make these necessary alternatives a reality. Let us stand together as we reclaim the commons of seed and food and as we protect our land sovereignty and cultural heritage. Let us work together to sow the seeds of the future and sow the seeds of another vision for the planet and its inhabitants. We commit to an agricultural Renaissance and to creating a new economy built on the commons, on co-operation, and on our creative and collective intelligence.
